CATIA V5 Update in 5 Minutes with scV5

science + computing presents software management solution for automated installation and central management of CATIA

Tuebingen, August 31, 2007. With scV5, science + computing presents a software management solution for the efficient management of CATIA V5. The system administrator can use scV5 to perform installations, updates, and integration fully automatically. He also easily manages different installation versions for various OEMs. With this management solution, everything is performed centrally from one computer.

CATIA V5 design software from Dassault Systèmes is a key element in the workflow of numerous CAD departments. A productive CATIA installation consists of different versions of three installation components: Release, Service Pack and Hotfix. Suppliers in particular often find that it can be problematic to provide the right combination of versions of these three components for each of their customers. As an all-in-one solution, scV5 makes it easy for companies to install and automatically configure a range of CATIA V5 versions and also offers the flexibility to manage a number of versions simultaneously.

"CATIA is often installed manually due to the absence of suitable automated tools", explains Jan Wender, scV5 product manager at science + computing. "However, the more CATIA workstations that need to be maintained, the more time-consuming and particularly error-prone this method is". Automating the installation will become more and more essential when new CATIA versions need to be loaded several times a year to meet OEM requirements. This is where science + computing comes in with its scV5.

The system administrator uses scV5 to control all CATIA software management operations from a central administration machine: He also performs installations on several hundred CATIA workstations with just a few keystrokes via network. scV5 transfers the necessary packages to all target hosts, requests the relevant license information from the administration host, carries out preconfigured adjustments for system integration and integrates the installation into the start tool. The entire process is fully automatic from start to finish. In this way, updating all workstations to a new version no longer takes several hours, as it previously did, but can be performed within five minutes.

scV5 uses a package manager that, unlike conventional products, is designed to manage several versions of a software package simultaneously on one and the same computer in parallel.

To ensure installations can also be performed rapidly on several hundred workstations in large networks, scV5 also offers the option of using Multicast to transfer data in a way that minimizes the load on the network.
