System management software scVENUS 2.3 released
Enhanced Windows support and more efficient administration
Tuebingen, December 22, 2008. science + computing ag (s+c) releases a new version of its system management software scVENUS. In developing version 2.3, s+c focused on two key objectives: significantly extending the support of Microsoft Windows operating systems and achieving further improvements in administration efficiency. In addition, it includes a number of new features and improvements.
Extended support for Windows
scVENUS 2.3 now offers extended support for Microsoft operating systems. The new version supports Windows patch management. Thus, administrators are now able to store patches for the operating system and Internet Explorer in the scVENUS software depot. From there, they can automatically distribute them to Windows clients.
To ensure the entire user management of a heterogeneous network can be performed centrally from scVENUS, the new version allows you to create and manage users and groups in Active Directory.
In addition, scVENUS 2.3 offers more than 80 new functions to perform administrative tasks, such as management of the access controls, the registry and the file attributes. scVENUS now allows you to access this and all other functions with Powershell as well. You may simultaneously execute them on several computers. The new version significantly simplifies the software administration for Windows clients. Furthermore, scVENUS 2.3 supports the MSI package format.
Greater efficiency in administration
scVENUS is already appreciated for its ability to consistently log all administrative actions. The Job Log Browser, a new module in scVENUS 2.3, now facilitates intuitive and easy access to this administrative documentation. A graphical user interface gives you rapid access to a structured and detailed overview of administration activities on certain computers, stating the administrators involved. Thus, the Job Log Browser becomes an essential tool for controlled change management.
Administrators can now work more efficiently with the GUI of scVENUS. This is due to the new buttons for fast access to certain functions. For example, with just one click the administrator can see which users are logged on to a computer or he can display a client's process table.
More new features and improvements in scVENUS 2.3: The Monitoring module was enhanced to allow the reporting of long running data. For improved security, you can implement a password policy with the new version of scVENUS. A standardized interface for accessing a client's console provides a more comfortable administration of Linux clusters nodes.
scVENUS has been successfully on the market for almost fifteen years, so it belongs to the well engineered and most reliable tools for automated system administration of homogeneous and heterogeneous Unix-, Linux- and Windows-networks. Working with scVENUS, administrators configure computers, install all software and administer all users, clients and file systems - all this is done centrally from the "Single Point of Administration". Resource planning is a straightforward task using scVENUS Inventory, while scVENUS Monitoring keeps administrators updated on the current status of their network.
