Central data management for a development service provider
A development service provider of the automotive industry, who operates test facilities and CAE applications at several locations worldwide, needed to specify a central data management solution. The strategic goal of the solution: The optimal availability and utilization of the test facilities' work results. At the same time, both security interest and legal constraints had to be considered.
s+c analyzed the working processes of the concerned areas and identified a conceptual solution in collaboration with the customer. s+c assisted the customer to write the customer requirements and it wrote the development requirements which created the foundation for a call for tenders.
The solution is based on a database that complies with the ASAM ODS 5.x standard. A complete set of data contains the measured data, the information on the measurement's goal and its constraints as well as the results of additional analyses. All this is to be stored and administered in a homogeneous data model.
Central web platform for test, measurement and appraisal data
s+c supports an internationally active automobile supplier in developing a technical platform. Its purpose is to control, process and document the test jobs' processes, methods and analyses. The measured data and its description are administered in compliance with the ASAM ODS 5.x standard. The web application in use serves several departments and divisions. The application was implemented in accordance with the corporate design and security guidelines. The prototype developed by s+c is in productive use - further milestones shall also be put into practice by s+c.
s+c used the ASAM ODS server HighQSoft Avalon as backend to design the application with a multi-layer architecture. The AJAX-based presentation layer was implemented with Richfaces (JSF), while authentication utilizes a Sun Identity Manager. JBoss 4.2.3 is used as application server.
Central pool for measured data in NVH
An automobile manufacturer wanted to introduce a data management tool for the NVH development dept. due to strongly growing amounts of data. In addition to unlimited storage capacity, a format independent pool for measured data was to be realized. s+c recommended the use of an ASAM ODS database and the implementation of an "infinitely" large data storage by archiving data to cost-saving magnetic tapes.
s+c used the MDM-Framework to implement a scalable client-server-application as rich client platform (Java, Eclipse). The users can browse, search, assort, archive and recover the data as required. Further expansion stages should cover the entire work flow of logging and managing measurement data.
Replacement of a technically obsolete data selection software
The development dept. of an automobile manufacturer has administered measured data with an ASAM ODS compliant database for years. A technically obsolete solution for selection and transfer of evaluated data should be replaced by a web application. To make this process easier for the user, familiar views and interfaces were reproduced without forgoing timely extensions and the corresponding flexibility to meet increasing requirements.
The AJAX application implemented by s+c is based on HighQSoft's CatWalk and utilizes the Direct Web Remoting (DWR) framework. The application server uses Apache Tomcat 6.0.
Migrations of ASAM ODS databases
The development dept. of an automobile manufacturer has used ASAM ODS databases since the year 2000. These databases were consistent with ASAM ODS 3.x. For the further development of the environment and for the linking to other systems and databases, it became necessary to update to the latest version of this standard.
s+c migrated two databases during continuous measurement operations. In doing so, intermediate steps were necessary to implement parts of the standard. s+c performed complex data migrations and simultaneously adapted several tools in order to avoid operational interruptions.
Integration of simulation data into measuring data management
In the development dept. of an automobile manufacturer, CAE- and CAT engineers work hand in hand to optimize the chassis. The direct comparability of simulated and measured chassis should be ensured by a combined database and identical analysis methods. s+c acted as advisor to gain comparability of the simulation results and the actual measured values. s+c developed a software, with which the results of the simulation are prepared in a way they could be transferred to the measuring database in the form of a virtual measurement. The engineers can now evaluate measured and virtual data in a comparative way.
